our roots
Hey there,
Welcome to our farm. Our hope is that those who come as strangers, leave as friends.
We are a small family farm in small town Michigan. We love small town life, country living, all things family, agriculture, and striving to be as self sustaining as we can. Without our God, none of this would be possible. We are a bunch of imperfect beings that do things the hard way most of the time. We aren’t afraid to share our imperfection and “character building” moments. We take comfort in knowing we aren’t alone, and are sure you do too.
We all work “day jobs” off the farm. Our lives going in several different directions at any given moment. Coming home to the farm is a breath of fresh air (Disclaimer: Farm air is sometimes a little too fresh). It is our common ground, the place we all reconnect, and find our roots. There is always plenty of work to do, but we love every minute of it (except dishes and folding laundry). We speak fluent sarcasm and sass, and not a day goes by without some kind of shenanigans.
Rich (our patriarch), grew up on a dairy farm, and showing livestock at the local county fair. He now spends his days working in the dewatering industry (say what?). He is our official fence mender, trailer backer upper, chain saw operator, meat smoker, and he generally gets stuck with most premium tasks around here (aka-the grossest stuff). He is also self-proclaimed as “The Coolest Cat Around”! When he’s not working he can be found at the race track or in the shop tinkering on his race car.
Stephanie (aka MOM), grew up in a subdivision, didn’t know the difference between a heifer and a cow, and had no idea the county fair had animals or Agricultural (Ag) exhibits until she met Rich. After many years as a registered nurse, she retired from nursing in 2022 in order to dedicate to time to the farm and hasn’t regretted it in the least. She is in charge of the CSA program and keeping the gardens growing.
Madysen (the oldest child) is a graduate of Kansas State University (GO Cats!), with a degree in Animal Science. She grew up participating in 4H and FFA, raising and showing her livestock at a local county fair and across Michigan. She currently works in the thumb area in the grain industry and handles all things cattle related here on the farm. She also is working to build her own herd of beef show cattle
Richie (the middle child) is the master of the lawn maintenance and doing whatever needs to be done to help with the farm stand and market days. He works full time off the farm with Rich, but he still makes an appearance around the farm every once in awhile.
Mason (the youngest child) has also followed in his father’s footsteps and works in the dewatering industry and is currently learning the ins and outs of being a drill rig operator. . He loves his old truck and his dog. He also recently bought his first beef cattle show heifer.
Leland she is the real boss around here. She is the best garden helper and her favorite farm chores are feeding cows and collecting eggs.
