Dollar General Valentine Truck
I’ll be the first to admit it. I don’t like Dollar General. It’s not personal or anything. They’re just EVERYWHERE! But…they’ve stepped up their decor and craft game considerably. So I have decided to overlook some of my hang ups, including (but not limited to) their terrible brand colors. And, when you live in the middle of nowhere they are convenient.
So, on one of those “I don’t want to drive 30 minutes to get the laundry soap that I forgot at the store in town so I’ll suck it up and go the DG” quick trips and found this wooden truck.
Seriously, $2.00!!! I had no idea what I was going to do with it, but it came home with me.
After looking at it for a couple of weeks, I decided I didn’t want it to to look like the ever popular red truck that has been everywhere. I started with the base and painted it brown and then dry brushed some lighter brown and gray just to give it some depth. Still wasn’t in love to I decided to come back to that part.
On to the truck. I painted the truck gray (not the hearts though) and the tires black. Then I decided to age the truck. Again dry brushing some brown and rust colored paint.
Then I moved one to painting the hearts. And I aged them a little as well, because why not.
Now back to that pesky base. I dug through my craft stash and found some faux grassy rocks and green mossy stuff that I had picked up at Dollar Tree in their craft/floral section. I hot glued some “grass” to the base. And voila!!!
It’ll do.
So here you go…..
